Daegu Gosan Library has been designed to make the search for knowledge, whether from books or via a computer, the internet, recordings or face to face communication a joyful and uplifting experience.

Our concept creates a mixed use vibrant facility with multi functional spaces, incorporating library services, adult and community learning and a wider cultural offer based around the arts with opportunities for performance and exhibitions.

Libraries have historically existed exclusively as physical spaces dictated by the book. As knowledge becomes virtual, the physical storage space required is reduced and enables the library to change from being a simple repository into a community gathering place. The physical expression of a library changes in emphasis to become a community landmark. The new library becomes a communities living room. Comfortable and welcoming it is a space within which individuals can find a place for themselves as a sanctuary, a place to do homework, a place to learn or simply a place to meet friends and have coffee.
